Guangzhou, China
- By Kety
- Published 03/27/2008
Guangzhou is another city in China that is experiencing rapid growth and development. It is a city which is rich in history and is known to the west by teh infamous Opium War. It has preserved its own kind of architecture, mostly shop-houses. At the same time, there are still a lot of colonial buildings (mostly built by the British) remaining in the center of the city.
These are the pictures from last year. I am sure it is a lot of different now!
Info below is from http://www.wikipedia.org/
Guangzhou is the capital and the sub-provincial city of Guangdong Province in the southern part of the People's Republic of China. The city is also known by an older English-language name, Canton. It is a port on the Pearl River, navigable to the South China Sea, and is located about 120km north-west of Hong Kong. As of the 2000 census, the city has a population of 6 million, and a metropolitan population of 12.6 million, making it the most populous city in the province and the third most populous metropolitan area in China.

Guangzhou Yun Fu Hotel (4 star)

Finding Hotel in Guangzhou during the Canton Fair can be really annoying task. If you're arriving with train, look outside the station for people with hotel brochures – they can give you a much better deal than what you would get yourself (especially for first time visitors).
Yun Fu is a 4 star hotel, good example of hotel star rating based on the stars you can see from your window. Well, if you’re there for business it’s perfectly fine. Clean rooms, internet, acceptable English skills (by some of the staff)

If you are in the scooter/ATV market, you might end up with visiting Wuyi. It's a small calm city, with almost nothing to do there.

Airlines Hotel Shenzhen

Airlines Hotel is one of my personal favorites in Shenzhen. It's located near the border - $1 with taxi or 10 minutes walk. Just like most hotels in China the room rates are negotiated on arrival: 200-280RMB single room, 360-400RMB suite. Rooms are clean, hotel staff nice and friendly, all rooms have internet and the speed is acceptable.

Chinese Restaurants in China are just... restaurants

Chinese cuisine originated from the various regions of China and has become widespread in many other parts of the world. It offers really wide variety of “food”. However, forget about the local takeaway "chinese food" you are used to, things are not exactly the same in China.
If you are little capricious for food, you got no problems... Mc Donalds, KFC and Pizza Hut are there for you!

Sea food, water creature you like - they can cook it for you.

Fast food - you better be really fast if that snake gets out of the cage!

And my peronal favorite... Couldn't they hang a donkey there?
Regardless of the small food issues, I really enjoy my trips to China and it will stay my favorite vacation and business designation.
